I was afraid this would happen. It’s one of the reasons I didn’t want to start trying to write regularly for my site. Sooner or later, in my life, timelines tighten. Work picks up, life gets crazy and the first thing I’m willing to let go of is standing at my computer at nine o’clock at night writing. I have friends who are professional writers and I admire their craft and craftiness. Ever since I started working from home full-time, I’ve become far pickier about how much time I’ll spend at the computer, and how I’ll spend it when I’m there.

The past six weeks have been blessedly busy for me, the end-run of my second “season” this work-year. By the time 2006 closes it will have set a new high-water mark for me: forty-two events. Sounds reasonable until you take a gander at my “At-A-Glance” 2006 Yearly Planner. Events tend to come in clusters, grouped tightly during the preferred times of the year. Twelve of my events came in the past six weeks, and blessed were the weekends with only one event.

I had a lot of stuff I meant to write. Things that stuck in my head for more than a day, and I would promise myself I was going to get to them. Some of the lists are still floating around my brain, and will be out soon enough:

  • Top 10, No…15 Stupidest Things I’ve Taught My Son
  • Top 10 Things I Learned Golfing in the Rain in Hawaii
  • Top 10 Most Awesome Rap Intros of All Time
  • What I’ve Learned by Watching the Sopranos
  • And, of course, My Loveletter to DirecTV

All of that will have to wait, though. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I’ve a lot to be thankful for. Like the fact that Michele is time-shifting America’s Next Top Model downstairs right now…
