With the Greatest of Ease…and F’s, Too
I’m constantly amazed by the connections Ryder is able to make, as well as his hilarious sense of humor. While we were getting ready to put Ryder to sleep tonight, Michele hoisted Ryder over the bed-rails straight into the middle of the bed, declaring, “Wow, you flew into bed with the greatest of ease!”
“I flew into bed,” he says, “with the greatest of E’s! And F’s & G’s!”
I laughed so hard that we had to explain to him why it was so funny – what “ease” means, and how it sounds just like “E’s”, etc. I was almost disappointed to drop that dose of reality on him, seeing as how pleased he was with my reaction to it.
For me, this is the tightrope of parenting: knowing when to simply give him his creative space, and when to…parent. Of course, the fact that his “creative space” often involves throwing all of the carrot tops on the floor and declaring, “they’re going through an obstacle course!” before putting them in the compost doesn’t make such decisions any easier. Or effier, for that matter.
